The Mico University College

The Department of Industrial Technology operates within the framework of the vision and mission of The Mico University College and has set these departmental goals:

  • To substantially increase the pool of well prepared Resource and Technology teachers as well as facilitators of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)
  • To promote research and creative work that will increase the intellectual, social and economic capital of Jamaica and the wider Caribbean

Programmes Offered

The programme offered by the department is the B.Ed. Secondary with specialization in Industrial Technology. The duration is normally 4 years with advanced placement for candidates with a teacher’s diploma, who may complete the programme in 2 years.

This programme prepares teachers to deliver the Industrial Techniques module of Resource and Technology (Grades 7 – 9) as well as a TVET subject at Grades 10 – 12. Areas of specialization are Construction Technology, Electrical Technology and Mechanical Technology. Emphasis is placed on drafting and design, teaching methodology and the management of TVET facilities. Research, problem-solving and the construction of projects are integral aspects of the Industrial Technology programme at The Mico University College.
