Graduation

Dear Graduands,

It is with immense pride and heartfelt congratulations that I extend warmest wishes to each of you, the distinguished Graduating Class of 2025. Today, you stand at the culmination of years of diligence, perseverance, growth and transformation. You have fulfilled the academic and professional requirements of your respective programmes: Primary Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education and Physical Education. You have earned the right to be called graduates of the Faculty of Education.

At the heart of our Faculty’s mission is a commitment to empowering students and staff to perform at their highest potential. You have embraced this mandate with excellence. Your achievements—academic, personal and professional—bear testimony to your resilience, your commitment to reflective practice and your passion for teaching and learning. I am especially proud of the many graduates from this cohort who were recently recognised at the Student Awards Ceremony, as well as those whose performance in sports, clubs and societies, as well as, the final practicum exceeded expectations and won the admiration of both supervisors and host institutions. You have not only met the standards of your programme; in many instances, you have surpassed them.

The four departments that make up our Faculty are Special Education, Early Education, Professional Studies and Physical Education. These units have worked tirelessly to shape you into educators who are not only technically sound in pedagogy and methodology, but who are also emotionally intelligent and grounded in strong ethical values. The Department of Professional Studies, in particular, has equipped you with the tools necessary to engage with diverse learners and dynamic educational environments. The practicum experiences across Kingston and St. Catherine provided the opportunity to translate theory into meaningful action. Today, you graduate not only with a degree but also with a foundation of reflective practice and best teaching methodologies that will serve you, and those you teach, for a lifetime.

The Faculty of Education remains committed to its vision of producing graduates who are not only job ready, but also life ready: leaders in their schools, communities and countries. You now join an esteemed cadre of alumni who are making significant contributions in education locally and beyond. It is no surprise that our graduates are highly sought after, for you bring with you the reputation of excellence, professionalism and innovation that this Faculty represents.

As you turn the page to a new chapter, I encourage you to remain curious, continue to grow and always centre the needs of your learners in your practice. Education is not a destination; it is a calling. With the power to teach comes the responsibility to shape minds, foster hope and build the future.
