Neville George Ying Building

 

On the 14th of March 2018, Professor Neville Ying was honoured by the Overseas Examination Commission (OEC) who renamed a building in his honour.

 

 

 

Neville George Ying, CD, FIMCJ, PhD, is a distinguished alumni and Pro-Chancellor of the Mico University College (MUC), Professor of the University of the West Indies and an outstanding academic in a diverse range of scholarly disciplines, spanning Mathematics, Physics, Psychometrics, Statistics, Research Designs, Transformational Leadership, Strategic Management, Organizational Behaviour, Strategic Human Resource Management, Measurement and Evaluation among others. His impeccable scholarship has led to the authorship of over one hundred (100) published works. Widely acclaimed as a "brilliant mind'', his leadership is credited with the effective and sustained transformation of leading private and public sector, civic organizations and Higher Education institutions, in Jamaica, the wider Caribbean and international community.

 

 

 

As the longest serving Chairman (1996 -2016) of the OEC and before that, former Director I Commissioner (1983 - 2016), Neville Ying, throughout his combined thirty-three (33) years tenure with the OEC, stamped his distinctive brand of leadership excellence on a venerable institution , whose worthy mission from 1887, was, as the years progressed , under threat, prior Ying 's intervention, of been overtaken and overwhelmed , by the exigencies of an emerging new and dynamic era of challenges and opportunities.

I am here today because of the encouragement of my mother, what I call the hypothesis of greatness. She told me two things; you have an asset called your brain use it well and use it wisely and care for others,” stated Ying, in his response to the audience who attended in support of his bestowed honour. He continued outlining how those two guiding principles have lead him to various successes in life and dubbed his speech ‘service and family, highlighting all the families he was a part.


 

 

The Building renamed ‘The Neville George Ying Building’ will be seen on entering the OEC premises.
