Student Field Experience Officer

Description of Role

The Student Field Experience Officer is responsible for overseeing the implementation, organization, coordination and evaluation of all phases of the practicum activities in the Faculty departments/Schools. This position will report to the University College Practicum Coordinator.

In fulfilling these functions, the incumbent will collaborate with the faculties and staff to develop and maintain field related information for each practicum experience.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in education, or its equivalent in a related field. 
  • Teacher-training certification from an accredited institution
  • Prior experience in higher education, ideally at the Department or Faculty level.
  • Experience in providing coaching and/or using counselling skills to support individuals.
  • Previous experience in supervision is strongly desired.
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative, largely unsupervised and as part of a team
  • Experience and sensitivity of working with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Broad knowledge of academic structures and processes
  • Knowledge and ability to delegate work to others and/or help to build cooperation to deliver team results.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of current technologies, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Google Suite; and database content, including Turnitin.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of individuals, personalities, and departments in a professional and effective manner.
  • Ability to analyse problems, identify solutions, take appropriate actions and resolve problems using both independent and collaborative judgement and decision-making processes.
  • Ability to set and communicate a clear vision and expectations for departmental and individual programmes and to command the confidence of the Unit, Department and the Faculty Dean.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to multi-task.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain a calm focus during hectic periods.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional attitude and image with a commitment to quality service.
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.
