What do you need to qualify?

In order to be eligible for programmes at The Mico, you must fall into any of the following options below:

NB. “Applicants who do not receive a Grade I in CSEC English will be required to take an English Proficiency Test and achieve a minimum of 70%. If your grade is below 70%, you will be required to enrol in and pass the Foundation English course during the first year of your study”.

B.Ed. Primary Education

Mathematics and Science

Available Full time & Part-time

Entry Requirements

Five (5) CSEC/GCE subjects including:

  • CSEC/GCE: Mathematics (Grade 1 or 2)
  • CSEC/GCE: Integrated Science (Grade 1 or 2)
  • English Language
  • Any two other subjects
  • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English Language.

B.Ed. Primary Education

Language Arts and Social Studies

Available Full time & Part-time

Entry Requirements

Five (5) CSEC/GCE subjects including:

  • CSEC/GCE: English Language (Grade 1 or 2)
  • CSEC/GCE: Social Studies (Grade 1 or 2)
  • Mathematics
  • Any two other subjects
    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English Language.

B.Ed. Physical Education

Entry Requirements

  • 5 CSEC inclusive of Mathematics, English Language, Physical Education or a Science Subject.
    • Any other two subject.
      • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English Language.

B.Ed. Early Childhood Education

Available Full time & Part-time

Entry Requirements

Five (5) CSEC/GCE subjects including:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics 
  • A Science subject
  • A Social Science subject
  • Any other subject.
    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English

B.Ed. Special Education

Available Full time & Part-time

Entry Requirements

  • Five (5) CSEC subjects include English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject preferably 
    Biology/Human and Social Biology/Integrated Science at the General Proficiency Level, (grades 1, 2 or 3 or their equivalent). 
  • NB: Stage 3 City and Guilds Mathematics is also accepted.

B.Ed. Family and Consumer Science

Entry Requirements

  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • Food Nutrition and Health OR Textiles Clothing and Fashion (ONLY ONE of the TWO is required)
  • Any two other CSEC subjects.
    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds Mathematics is also Accepted.

B.Ed. Geography and Environmental Studies

Entry Requirements

  • Five CSEC subjects including Mathematics and English A at the General Proficiency Level and Geography in grade 1 or 2.
  • Any two other subjects.
    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English Language.

B.Ed. Science

Entry Requirements

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Two Science subjects (Physics, Biology or Chemistry) with grades I or II
  • Any other subject.
    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English Language.

B.Ed. Industrial Technology

Entry Requirements

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Technical Drawing
  • Grade 2 in a Technical Subject (Building Technology/Electrical Technology) or a Level 2 NVQ.
  • Any two other subjects.
    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English Language.

B.Ed. Mathematics

(Face-to-Face)

Entry Requirements

Five (5) CSEC subjects including: 

  • Mathematics (Grade I and II)
  • English Language

or

Five (5) Equivalently graded subjects (GCE/NVQJ, etc.) including:

  • Mathematics 
  • English Language

B.Ed. Mathematics

(Online)

Entry Requirements

Five (5) CSEC subjects including:

B.Ed. Computer Science

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a minimum of five (5) CSEC subjects or GCE O-Level. These must include:

  1. Information Technology – CSEC Grade 1 or 2,
  2. English Language – CSEC Grade 1–3
  3. Mathematics – CSEC Grade 1–3
  • Any two other subjects.
    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English Language.

FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND LIBERAL ARTS

Programmes

B.Ed. in Business Studies

Available Full time & Part-time

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 CSEC (CXC) subjects, including:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Principles of Accounts (mandatory)
  • A Grade I or II in at least one other business subject, such as:
    • Principles of Business
    • Economics
    • Office Administration
    • EDPM (Electronic Document Preparation & Management)
    • Any other subject.
      • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English Language.

B.Sc. in Guidance and Counselling

Available Full time & Part-time

Entry Requirements

5 CSEC subjects including

  • Mathematics
  • English Language
  • A Science subject (Natural or Social Science)
  • Any two other subjects.
    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English Language.

B.Ed. in Music

Entry Requirements

  • 5 CSEC Subjects including CSEC Music and Maths
  • NB. Students who have AB Royal School of Music certification at level III are
    also Accepted.
  • If the student does not have a CSEC pass in Music any other subjects will be
    accepted along with Maths and English.
    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

B.Ed. Language and Literacy

Entry Requirements

For 4 years Programme:

  • 5 CSEC Subjects including

    • English A – CSEC I or II
    • English B – CSEC I or II
    • Mathematics – CSEC I, II or III (Level 3 City and Guilds is only accepted for math)
    • A pass in any other 2 subjects

B.Ed. in Institutional Management and Leadership

Available Full time & Part-time

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 CSEC (CXC) subjects, including:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • At least 2 business-related subjects
  • At least one must have Grade I or II
  • Business subjects may include:
    • Principles of Business
    • Principles of Accounts
    • Economics
    • Office Administration
    • EDPM

B.Ed. Visual Arts

Entry Requirements

  • 5 CSEC Subjects including Visual Arts and Mathematics.
  • Students with a CSEC pass of III In Visual Arts will be required to
    complete an Entry Exam (Practical).
  • Students must have an Art Portfolio.
    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

B.Ed. Social Studies with a minor in History & Culture Minor

Entry Requirements

5 CSEC Subjects including:

  • Social Studies – Grade I or II

  • History – Grade I, II, or III

  • Mathematics – Grade I, II, or III (City & Guilds Level 3 also accepted)

  • English Language – Grade I, II, or III

  • Any other subject

    • NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is accepted for Mathematics and English Language.

B.Ed. Language and Literature
