What do you need to qualify?

In order to be eligible for programmes at The Mico, you must fall into any of the following options below:

NB. “Applicants who do not receive a Grade I in CSEC English will be required to take an English Proficiency Test and achieve a minimum of 70%. If your grade is below 70%, you will be required to enrol in and pass the Foundation English course during the first year of your study”.

B.Ed. Primary Education

Mathematics and Science

Entry Requirements

Five (5) CSEC/GCE subjects including:

CSEC/GCE: Mathematics (Grade 1 or 2)
CSEC/GCE: Integrated Science (Grade 1 or 2)
English Language
two other subjects
- NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

B.Ed. Primary Education

Language Arts and Social Studies

Entry Requirements

Five (5) CSEC/GCE subjects including:

CSEC/GCE: English Language (Grade 1 or 2)
CSEC/GCE: Social Studies (Grade 1 or 2)
Mathematics
two other subjects

B.Ed. Secondary specialising in Physical Education

Entry Requirements

5 CSEC inclusive of Mathematics, English Language, Physical Education or One other
Science Subject.
- NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

B.Ed. Early Childhood Education

Entry Requirements

Five (5) CSEC/GCE subjects including:

English Language
Mathematics
A Science subject
A Social Science subject
Any other subject

B.Ed. Special Education

Entry Requirements

Five (5) CSEC subjects include English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject preferably
Biology/Human and Social Biology/Integrated Science at the General Proficiency Level, (grades 1, 2 or 3 or their equivalent).

FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

B.Ed. Family and Consumer Science

Entry Requirements

Mathematics
English Language
Food Nutrition and Health OR Textiles Clothing and Fashion (ONLY ONE of the TWO is required)
Any other 2 CSEC subjects.
- NB: Level 3 City and Guilds Mathematics is also Accepted.

B.Ed. Geography and Environmental Studies

Entry Requirements

Five CSEC subjects including English A at the General Proficiency Level, Grades 1 and
2 or their equivalent, and Geography.
- NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

B.Ed. Science

Entry Requirements

English Language
Mathematics
Two Science subjects (Physics, Biology or Chemistry) with grades I or II
Any other Subject.
NB: City and Guilds is also Accepted Up to a Level 3.

B.Ed. Industrial Technology

Entry Requirements

English Language
Mathematics
Technical Drawing
Grade 2 in a Technical Subject (Building Technology/Electrical Technology) or a Level 2 NVQ.
Any other subject.

Entry Requirements

Passes in five (5) CSEC/GCE subjects with Information Technology, English and
Mathematics or equivalent (e.g. City and Guild).
Passes in CXC CAPE Computer related courses or Information and Communication
Technology certification from a recognized institution are advantageous.
- NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND LIBERAL ARTS

B.Ed. in Business Studies

Entry Requirements

5 CSEC subjects including Principles of Accounts grades 1 – 3 and one
other business subject.
- NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

B.Ed. in Music

Entry Requirements

5 CSEC Subjects including CSEC Music and Maths
NB. Students who have AB Royal School of Music certification at level III are
also Accepted.
If the student does not have a CSEC pass in Music any other subjects will be
accepted along with Maths and English.
- NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

B.Ed. Language and Literacy

(Advance Placement Available)

Entry Requirements

For 4 years Programme:

5 CSEC Subjects including
- English A – CSEC I or II
- English B – CSEC I or II
- Mathematics – CSEC I, II or III (Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted)
- A pass in any other 2 subjects

B.Ed. History and Culture

Entry Requirements

5 CSEC Including English and Mathematics in grade I and II or
CAPE passes in Unit I and II.
History Grade I pass only
CSEC English and Mathematics/Accounts I OR II and
any other subjects within the area of specialization.
- NB: City and Guilds is also Accepted Up to a Level 3.

B.Ed. in Institutional Management and Leadership

Entry Requirements

5 CSEC subjects including one Business subject.
- NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

B.Sc. in Guidance and Counselling

Entry Requirements

5 CSEC subjects including

Mathematics
English Language
A Science subject (Natural or Social Science)
Any other 2 subjects
- NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

B.Ed. Visual Arts

Entry Requirements

5 CSEC Subjects including Visual Arts and Mathematics.
Students with a CSEC pass of III In Visual Arts will be required to
complete an Entry Exam (Practical).
Students must have an Art Portfolio.
- NB: Level 3 City and Guilds is also Accepted.

B.Ed. Social Studies

Entry Requirements

5 CXC Including English and Mathematics in grade I and
II or CAPE passes in Unit I and II
Social Studies Grade I pass only
CSEC English and Mathematics/Accounts I OR II and
any other subjects within the area of specialization.
