Bereavement and grief are constant human realities with deeply impactful effects on functional capacity and well-being. Learn to offer basic but effective support to those affected.
The increased incidence of traumatic loss globally as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and its debilitating threat to individuals’ psychological health make grief and bereavement major areas for counselling intervention today. This introductory course is designed to equip participants with the requisite knowledge and skills to effectively intervene in situations which require basic grief and bereavement counselling. Participants will be exposed to the main theories of grief and bereavement, the connection between grief, bereavement, developmental level and gender, strategies for managing grief and bereavement and the use of grief and bereavement assessment instruments. The course comprises four (4) Units. The content has been designed to facilitate the sequential development of concepts and skills through investigation, integration and scaffolding. During the course, participants engage in a variety of self-directed individual and group based activities, discussions, simulations, document preparation and oral presentations. The course is assessed by coursework only.
