Leroy Fearon
Dean, Faculty of Education
The Faculty of Education plays a central and strategic role in advancing The Mico University College’s core mandate of teacher preparation, educational leadership, and national development.
Through comprehensive undergraduate programmes in Special Education, Primary Education, Early Childhood Education, Physical Education, and allied professional studies, the Faculty facilitates the systematic development of pedagogical expertise, professional identity, and ethical practice among all student teachers enrolled at The Mico.
Learning within the Faculty is intentionally experiential, applied, and research-informed. Students are immersed in diverse educational settings where theory is continually tested against practice through supervised school-based experiences, community engagement, and reflective inquiry.
These real-world engagements strengthen instructional competence and ensure that graduates are not only effective classroom practitioners but also articulate communicators, culturally responsive professionals, critical thinkers, and innovators equipped to lead in complex educational environments.
Under the leadership of Dean Leroy Fearon Jr., an award-winning educator, researcher, curriculum developer, and national youth leader, the Faculty continues to expand its academic reach and public impact.
His contributions to national curriculum development, international research collaborations, and global academic discourse—including presentations across Europe, Asia, and North America—reflect the Faculty’s growing international visibility and commitment to evidence-based practice and global relevance.
The academic experience within the Faculty is rigorous and purpose-driven, grounded in high expectations and a culture of excellence. Student achievement is recognised and celebrated, with clear pathways for academic distinction and leadership development.
In response to changing educational demands, the Faculty continues to strengthen its integration of SMART and digital technologies, blended learning approaches, and innovative pedagogies to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment.
Beyond the classroom, the Faculty fosters holistic student development through a vibrant co-curricular ecosystem. Students engage in clubs, societies, sports, music, speech and debate, community volunteerism, research dissemination, and publication opportunities.
These experiences cultivate leadership, service, and professional confidence while reinforcing a strong sense of belonging and institutional pride.
The impact of the Faculty of Education is most evident in its alumni—educators, school leaders, policymakers, researchers, and advocates whose qualifications are widely respected and whose careers testify to the enduring value of a Mico education.
A degree from the Faculty provides not only professional credibility but also a foundation for lifelong learning, service, and leadership.
We warmly invite prospective students to join a Faculty defined by excellence, innovation, and care, where they will encounter dedicated and accomplished staff, build meaningful professional relationships, and become part of a lifelong scholarly and service-oriented community.
We equally encourage our current students to continue striving for excellence and to lead others with integrity, vision, and commitment.
Best wishes for continued success on your academic journey.
