The Industrial Technology Department operates within the framework of the vision and mission of the Mico University College and has set three departmental goals:
- To substantially increase the pool of well prepared Resource and Technology teachers as well as facilitators of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)
- To promote research and creative work that will increase the intellectual, social and economic capital of Jamaica and the wider Caribbean
- To develop the human and physical resources of the department so as to achieve full accreditation of its programmes as well as regional recognition of its work
The programme offered by the department is the B. Ed. in Industrial Technology Education. The duration is normally 4 years but candidates with a teacher's diploma may complete the programme in 2 years.
This programme prepares teachers to deliver the Industrial Techniques module of Resource and Technology (Grades 7 – 9) as well as a TVET subject at Grades 10 – 12. Areas of specialization are Construction Technology, Electrical Technology and Mechanical Technology. Emphasis is placed on drafting and design, teaching methodology and the management of TVET facilities.
